Grounding System & 200-Amp Electrical Service Upgrade in Colts Neck, NJ
Today, our crew was out in Colts Neck, NJ, completing an essential safety upgrade for a customer — the installation of a grounding system and rod as part of a 200-amp service panel upgrade. While it may not be the most visually dramatic part of an electrical project, grounding is one of the most critical components of a safe and reliable electrical system.
A proper grounding system acts as your home’s first line of defense against electrical surges, lightning strikes, and equipment malfunctions. It works by creating a safe pathway for excess electrical current to flow directly into the earth — preventing potential fire hazards, damage to appliances, or even injury. Unfortunately, many older homes across Monmouth County, including Colts Neck and surrounding areas, were built before modern grounding requirements were enforced, which means they may not meet today’s safety standards.
During this project, our team replaced the outdated electrical panel, installed a new grounding electrode conductor, and drove new copper grounding rods into the earth to ensure a low-resistance path to ground. We also tested the continuity of the entire system to verify safe and compliant connections, following all current NEC (National Electrical Code) guidelines.
Upgrading to a 200-amp service offers more than just peace of mind — it provides the power capacity needed for today’s modern homes. With so many customers adding electric vehicles, HVAC systems, smart home devices, and high-demand appliances, the electrical load on older 100-amp panels can easily become overwhelming. Our goal with every upgrade is to ensure your home is not only safer but also ready for future electrical needs.
