We’re Super Power Electric, based in Red Bank — about 15 minutes south via Route 36 or the Garden State Parkway. NJ Electrical License #12849. Family-owned since 1996. Over 900 five-star reviews.
Keyport calls itself the “Gateway to the Bayshore” — and the name fits. This 1.4-square-mile borough sits where Routes 35 and 36 meet at the edge of Raritan Bay, with a revitalized downtown, a working waterfront, and residential neighborhoods that tell the story of 150 years of development. Incorporated in 1870, Keyport grew from farmland to an oystering and shipping hub in the early 1900s, then filled in with post-war suburban housing as the industry faded.

Licensed. Insured. Local.
Keyport's housing era breakdown tells the story: 31% pre-1939, 38% from the 1940s–1960s. That's roughly 2,200 homes built with electrical systems ranging from 30-amp fuse boxes in the oldest properties to 100-amp panels in the post-war builds. None of these were designed for central air, renovated kitchens, home offices, or EV chargers.
We upgrade Keyport homes to 200-amp service — the modern standard. The process includes JCP&L service coordination, meter base replacement if required, new code-compliant panel installation, and municipal inspection. Most upgrades are completed in a single day.
If your Keyport home has a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel (common in 1970s–1980s renovations and in some of the waterfront condos from that era), it should be replaced immediately — these brands have documented safety defects.
Keyport has one of the highest concentrations of pre-1939 housing in the Bayshore region. These homes — Victorians, foursquares, workers' cottages, and early colonials clustered around the downtown and waterfront — carry the full range of legacy wiring problems:
Pre-war homes (downtown, Broad Street, Main Street, West Front Street area): Knob-and-tube wiring in attics and walls, cloth-insulated conductors that have dried and cracked over 80–100 years, ungrounded circuits throughout, and fuse boxes that can't be expanded. Many of these homes were built during Keyport's industrial peak and were wired for gas-to-electric conversions in the early 1900s. The original wiring was never meant to last this long.
Post-war ranches and capes (1940s–1960s, interior neighborhoods): The largest category of housing. Built with 100-amp panels and limited circuits. Common issues: undersized wiring for modern loads, two-prong ungrounded outlets, no GFCI protection, and in late-1960s/early-1970s construction, aluminum branch wiring that creates fire risk at connection points.
1970s–1990s condos and multi-family (waterfront, Gateway Park area): Generally better electrical condition, but some buildings have FPE or Zinsco panels. Units built as rental stock may have deferred maintenance.
Insurance companies are increasingly flagging legacy wiring during renewals and real estate transactions. If your insurer has raised concerns, call us for an assessment.
Keyport fronts Raritan Bay. Sandy pushed a storm surge of nearly 8 feet through the waterfront in 2012, and the borough's low-lying sections along the Bay and Matawan Creek take flooding during major storms. Even without flooding, JCP&L's overhead lines running through Keyport's dense residential blocks make multi-day outages a regular occurrence during nor'easters and summer thunderstorms.
A standby generator provides automatic backup within seconds of a power failure — protecting sump pumps, refrigerators, HVAC, security systems, and home offices.
We install Generac, Kohler, and Briggs & Stratton generators. Full-service installation: load calculation, unit sizing, gas line coordination, concrete pad, automatic transfer switch, permitting, and inspection. Most Keyport homes need a 16–22kW unit depending on what you want to back up.
Keyport's location at the Routes 35/36/GSP junction makes it one of the Bayshore's best-connected commuter boroughs. The Hazlet and Aberdeen-Matawan NJ Transit stations are both minutes away, and the Parkway puts NYC and North Jersey within easy reach. That commuter population is increasingly switching to EVs.
We install Level 2 home chargers for Tesla, ChargePoint, and all brands. As a Tesla Certified Installer, our electricians are factory-trained to install the Wall Connector to spec.
Most Keyport homes need a panel upgrade first — a Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 40–50 amp, 240V circuit, and the majority of panels here don't have that capacity. We handle both the upgrade and charger installation in a single visit.
Whole-House Surge Protection — Panel-mounted protection for every circuit. Free with every full panel upgrade. Especially important in Keyport given the frequency of storm-related outages and grid surges during power restoration.
Indoor & Outdoor Lighting — Kitchen and bathroom recessed lighting, historic fixture restoration for the pre-war homes, exterior security lighting, landscape lighting, and salt-air-rated outdoor fixtures for the waterfront properties.
Electrical Inspections — Pre-sale and pre-purchase inspections. With 70% of Keyport's housing over 60 years old, an electrical-specific inspection catches problems a general home inspector will miss — legacy wiring, undersized panels, unpermitted work, and code violations.
Smoke & CO Detectors — Hardwired, interconnected systems required by NJ law for every home sale.
Outlets, Switches & GFCI — Two-prong to three-prong upgrades, GFCI for kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and exteriors.
Electrical Repair — Flickering lights, dead outlets, burning smells, partial power loss. Same-day service available.
Emergency Electrician — 24/7 — Call (732) 851-8487 any time.
Our electricians have been providing electrical services in all of Keyport for decades, and we know what’s most common when it comes to the housing stock here.
Keyport's historic commercial core and the adjacent residential blocks. The pre-war homes here — Victorians, foursquares, and workers' cottages from the borough's oystering and shipping era — are architecturally charming and electrically challenging. Knob-and-tube wiring, fuse boxes, and circuits designed a century ago are common. Many homes have been converted to multi-family or have had piecemeal electrical updates over the decades. The waterfront itself includes newer condo developments (Gateway Park, Keyport Harbor) with modern panels but occasional FPE/Zinsco issues in the 1980s-era buildings.
The post-war core — ranches, capes, and small colonials from the 1940s–1960s on compact lots. 100-amp panels, basic wiring, limited circuits. This is the bread-and-butter panel upgrade and circuit addition work we do in Keyport. Some homes on the edges of these neighborhoods blend into the pre-war stock, creating blocks with mixed housing eras and mixed electrical conditions.
Homes along the Bay with direct water exposure. A mix of bungalows, small single-family homes, and some newer construction. Storm vulnerability and salt air are the defining electrical factors — generator demand is high, outdoor fixtures need marine-grade ratings, and GFCI protection on all exterior receptacles is essential.

A fuse box or small panel that can't support modern loads, knob-and-tube or cloth-insulated wiring in some areas, ungrounded outlets, and no GFCI protection. A panel upgrade to 200 amps is the usual first step, followed by targeted rewiring based on what we find during assessment. More on rewiring →
Yes. FPE Stab-Lok panels have documented breaker failures — they don't trip during overloads. This is a fire hazard. We see these in several Keyport waterfront buildings from the 1970s–1980s. More on FPE replacement →
NJ smoke and CO detector compliance certificate (required at closing), FPE/Zinsco panel replacement if applicable, GFCI protection in kitchens and bathrooms, and an electrical inspection to catch anything a buyer's inspector would flag.
About 15 minutes from our Red Bank office via Route 36 or the Parkway. For emergencies, we can typically arrive within 30–45 minutes.
